Pantoum To Une Fêtarde À Vélo

Sep 29, 2022

Do you know of a truck lot called ‘Chuck’s Trucks’ down by the one-horse bridge? Here is a pantoum about a party girl and a hoodie as they each make their way home after attending respective late night drinking parties. This poem is presented as a pantoum as well as partially in French for added ambiance.

Churning her pedals on a post party ride
morning comes early, sun’s on the ridge
weather is crisp — an incoming tide
past Camions on a One-horse Bridge

Morning comes early, sun’s on the ridge
late night fêtarde who can’t find her fridge
past Camions on a One-horse Bridge
chased by a firefly, bit by a midge

Late night fêtarde who can’t find her fridge
past un capuche who can skulk but not hide
chased by a firefly, bit by a midge
the priest will be praying and Good Lord abide

Weather is crisp — an incoming tide
churning her pedals on a post party ride.

Author’s note. Camions is a resale lot (better known as ‘Chuck’s Trucks’). And, yes, it’s near a one-horse bridge. La fêtarde has been sited from time-to-time cycling home from Mex’s Pub. Le capuche is less easy to spot.
