The Prairie Wind and Me
December 7, 2021
Neil Garvie reads his poem, The Prairie Wind and Me, from his first book of poetry about the environment, Silence Craves a Voice.
Is that someone calling
in the prairie wind for me?
Is that someone calling?
I strain and look to see
But there’s no sign of anyone
as far as I can see
there’s just the two of us
the prairie wind and me
The prairie wind stirs
a never-ending gust
it churns a sea of grass
it puffs up clouds of dust
The prairie wind teases
it slaps against my pants
it tugs upon my ball cap
it whispers and it chants
The prairie wind is calling
beckoning to me
it’s just the two of us
